FUR CARE
JOY garments are luxurious, made of top quality fur. Tailored using certified, only high end materials. Given proper care, JOY garment will maintain its appeal for years to come and even may become your heritage. To enjoy the long lasting quality, value and beauty, we suggest the following:
Proffessional cleaning
- A fur specialist should inspect and clean your fur clothing at least once a year. The best time to do this is after the cold season when you know that you will not be wearing it for some time.
This step is essential to prevent your fur piece from drying of leather.
- Your fur may not look dirty, but it need freshening to remove small abrasive dirt particles and chemicals, and keep it soft.
Proper Storage
- Use a broad-shouldered hanger for your genuine fur coat. Additionally, ensure that the fur coat has enough space in the wardrobe so it is not compressed by other clothing.
- If storing a fur coat or accessory at home, avoid leaving it in direct sunlight or a brightly lit area, as light can cause fading, oxidation, or even color changes in the fur.
- Avoid storing your garment near heat-emitting devices, as prolonged exposure may lead to alterations in the product's color.
- The storage area must be well-ventilated to allow the fur to breathe.
- Humidity and temperature are crucial for fur. If stored in a too-dry place, the natural oils will dry out, leading to the skin becoming brittle, and the garment may begin to break. If stored in a warm and humid place, the fur loses its fluffiness and starts to look oily and sticky.
Traveling Guide
- The travel bag is for travel use only. As soon as you have the opportunity, take the fur coat out of the travel bag and store it properly according to the fur care instructions.
- Never use plastic or rubber-lined bags for traveling, as they impede proper air circulation and limit the fur's ability to breathe. An exception can be made for vacuum bags.
- The JOY dust bag is a superior choice for travel. It not only saves space but also prevents your fur from being crushed or experiencing alterations in its hair texture. Your fur will emerge from the bag looking as impeccable as when you placed it inside.
Fur and Weather Conditions
- Fur adapts perfectly to snow and rain, except for genuine chinchilla fur.
- If a fur coat gets wet, shake it out and hang it on a broad-shouldered hanger to dry in a well-ventilated room. Do not place it near other clothing; it needs more space. Never place it close to heat sources such as a radiator, as these will dry out the fur and leather. Do not dry it with a hairdryer – this will damage the fur. The fur needs to dry naturally. After the fur coat is dry, shake it well again.
- If the fur coat is soaked, take it to a furrier as soon as possible to ensure it receives proper treatment.
Potential Big Mistakes
- Avoid spraying any kind of chemicals, such as perfume, hairspray, aerosol, or similar substances, onto genuine fur clothing or accessories. These substances can dry out the fur, alter its appearance, reduce its sleekness, and make it sticky.
- Ensure that no jewelry, such as brooches or other items, is left in your garment. These accessories can cause significant damage to your luxury garment, altering the fur's color where the jewelry was placed and potentially leading to fur loss in that spot.
- Consider wearing a lightweight scarf around your neck beneath the fur garment to protect against makeup and natural skin oils.
- Never sit down on your genuine fur coat.
